The 400 hundred year-old Great Plane Tree stands guardian to all others in L'Orto Botanico, Padua, Italy. It was first drawn in February whilst the gardeners, quietly pruning and cutting out winter growth on the Vitex Agnus Castus nearby, provided a background rhythm to my pencil. A grandmother took her small grandson round the paths: two voices and two sets of footsteps on the gravel gently gossiping in the still morning, sang their own duet.
